Vocalist Jada Brown Finds Power in a Microphone

By Kate McDonald

Jada Brown, affiliated with the Turtle Mountain Band of Ojibwe, is a vocalist and poet who is passionate about engaging in creative resistance work. Rooted in soul, R&B and alternative sounds, her work offers a peaceful blend between captivating and tranquil, qualities also reflected in her onstage presence and and in-studio magic. Empathy as a revolutionary act is central to her work.

Jada Brown is a featured artist in the June 2019 event,Art Is...CreativeNativeResilience. At this event, Marcie Rendon brings together three Anishinabe artists to perform contemporary artistic works in a showcase of the collective resilience of who we are as a people. Jada Brown sings her heart out. Andrea Fairbanks dances and moves about the lifeforce of our language over attempts to destroy us. Sir Curtis Kirby III brings his directing skills, along with the Ikidowin Youth Theater Ensemble.
