SciGirls Role Models: Brennetta Harris, Architectural Estimator

By TPT Originals

Brennetta Harris has dreamed of becoming an architect since childhood and designed her own blueprint for working towards her career goals. But reaching a dream is not always easy. Although Brennetta was on track to receive her four-year degree, she decided it wasn’t the right fit for her. Instead, she went to Dunwoody College of Technology in Minneapolis for construction project management, and she was soon on her way to becoming an Architectural Estimator.

Brennetta also had support from her family to pursue her dream, especially since there aren’t many women typically in construction-based fields. She even used to help her dad with small projects around the house. Although she isn’t yet an architect, she’s on her way through the manufacturing industry. Another example of how STEM can merge all different worlds together, customer service and design skills collide in Brennetta’s world to create dream homes for clients. Every STEM career is a journey to the ultimate dream – in Brennetta’s case, it is building homes for local single parents. The Twin Cities is full of dreamers like Brennetta, and her path to becoming one of the Women in STEM showcases that not everyone is the same in how they can reach their goals.
