Ruth Elda Haugen Loves the State Fair
For the past six years, Twin Cities PBS has partnered with Minnesota Public Radio to record an episode of "Almanac" at the Minnesota State Fair. And for all six of those years, Ruth Elda Haugen (along with her family members Kim and Melody) has been sitting in the audience. This might not sound remarkable, but keep in mind, Ruth attends the Fair almost every single day it's open... and she's 93 years old.
David Gillette spoke with Ruth about why she loves the Fair and why she's so loyal to "Almanac." As we learned, she enjoys learning about her community and the people who make it so interesting. To her additional credit, this year she was willing to sit through a soaking rain and nearby lighting to keep her spot in the audience - it was, by far, the most challenging production day "Almanac" has experienced in the field, but Ruth never wavered.
We're very grateful to Ruth for her support, dedication and interest in our work, and we're proud to call her a true "Almanac" Superfan!
