Minnesota State Fair Traditions
A Bobendrier family tradition for over 100 years
The Bobendriers from Pipestone, MN know how to care for sheep, Hampshire sheep, to be exact. They're passionate, they're knowledgeable, and they enjoy the competition and camaraderie of the Minnesota State Fair.
The family began showing sheep at the fair back in 1915. The only years they've missed since then are the years the fair was called off due to the polio epidemic and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Through many of us visit the fair for a few hours to check out the food, rides, and shows exhibitors like the Bobendriers spend the entire year preparing for the Great Minnesota Get Together.
This story is a part of State Fair Traditions, a program produced in 2017. The documentary explores the agricultural history of the Minnesota State Fair.
