Fat Biking Takes the Fast Track In Northern Minnesota
Once the pastime of a few, fat-tire biking finally gets its due.

Reporter Kaomi Lee traveled to Cook County to find out more about the fast-growing winter sport of fat tire biking. Local tourism officials recently held the Norpine Fat Bike Classic to encourage enthusiasts to come out and try the local forest-rich trails between Cascade River State Park and Superior National Forest. Area cyclists say fat biking has grown from its early days as a niche, eclectic hobby for a few some 15 years ago. Today, they say it's become more mainstream with more commercial production of the bicycles with wider tires that provide maximum flotation over snow.
